My paintings are of domestic objects which have been selected and composed to inspire nostalgia for Australian Homes. From opulent cut crystal to dormant orchids and rusty pliers, each object is painted on a backdrop of brightly coloured Australian Onkaparinga blankets.
As I paint objects, I am also exploring notions of abstraction within the medium of Painting. The organisation of brush stokes can easily sway a work from abstract to representational and vice versa.
My painting extends to applying glazes onto ceramic which creates a tension between object and the pictorial space. Does the painting become an object with the addition of the ceramic frame? Does the hand painted ceramic become an extension of the painting?
In essence, I am painting objects to meditate on /elevate the domestic, with the intention that they might hang in a home.
